I won an immersing fellowship

I won an immersing fellowship offered by World Press Institute to the United States in 2006 through the IJNet to which I am immensely grateful. Interestingly while processing my visa for the fellowship at the US Embassy at home in Port Moresby, the public affairs division staff became very interested in how I initially found out about the fellowship. I told them about IJNet and they asked me to provide the address to which I willingly did. I learnt a lot about America, its politics, economy, education and health systems among others, but most of all its media industry. My visits to international media icons, the CCN, New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, LA Times, Chicago Times and Associated Press, had been the highlight of the fellowship. Among the other smaller media organizations and other institutions including universities, schools and hospitals, the visit to NASA, Pentagon and the United Nation have helped to shape my broad outlook of the world. The exposure I received has been very useful to my current position as general manager of the country’s first locally owned countrywide weekend newspaper, The Sunday Chronicle, which I founded before taking part in the fellowship in 2006. Though small, compared to the only two majority foreign-owned wide circulation dailies, Post-Courier and The National, the paper has found a niche market and is surviving in its own small way. The paper has built up a following that includes the country’s Prime Minister Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare who picks up his own copy from street sellers every Sunday. Sir Michael also made a special commitment towards supporting the newspaper, which has also been a vital information source for all diplomatic missions in the country. The wealth of industry knowledge I learnt from the fellowship has enabled me to provide direction for the newspaper but I am still keen on learning more in future similar programs. And I am glad that I am still on the mailing list for IJNet. There will definitely be more training opportunities available in IJNet to further broaden my input in the growth of the newspaper. I aim to build the country’s first ever successful locally owned newspaper. My email addresses are: vulum_sam@hotmail.com or namir_sam@yahoo.com

So junta slow down all connection among people within these days. Junta has formed Election 2010 but it could not be fair. After election, media will be no-changed. Hi IJNET: Your updates, which I access after subscribing sometime back has really been helpful as they provide me with crucial and important information. I have applied for various courses that have been posted on IJNET and last year managed to selected for ICF Reuters's Introduction to Business and Financial Reporting course in Nairobi Kenya. After the completion of the 5-day course, the 12 of us were issued with certificates.

For this updates, I'll always be greatful to you for the initiative to come up with IJNET.

All the best and keep it up.

I was fortunate to complete

I was fortunate to complete an online training with IJNET that was followed with a conference in Alexandria - Egypt. The training was about "freedom of expression in digital age", it helped me very much to enhance my abilities in using multimedia tools in my work as a journalist! I met some people from IJNET, they were very nice, very cooperative, and helpful. Almost everyday, i pass by IJNET website to check if there are new opportunities (after the online course, am using RSS feed). I wish to apply for a news course with IJNET, and i am so eager about it. Just want to thank every single person working for a better world, by enhancing journalists abilities.

IJNET has really been a

IJNET has really been a blessing to journalists of my own generation. Talking specifically, I can say without any fear of contradiction that I have benefitted immensely from IJNET's fountain of knowledge, in terms of building strong network of contacts, among others. Just last week, I receive payment worth $1,000 from an agency in the US, Foglamp, which I contracted me to assist them with a market survey back in Nigeria. Of course,I got to know this organisation through IJNET. There are other countless opportunities which I have been able to harness all through IJNET.Need I say more. I think, the IJNET team deserves all the encomiums and applause from all and sundry because of their resourcefulness among others. I say thumbs up toIJNET. You are truly, truly wonderful, indeed! IJNET has greatly helped me

IJNET has greatly helped me in advancement of my journalism career. Through IJNET, I successfully applied for a three year modulated course by the NSJ which exposed me to various Southern African Countries. Also managed to get sponsorship to cover the 2003 AU heads of state and Government Summit in Maputo, Mozambique. The IJNET has also provided me, just like most journalists, with numerous resources and connected me to other professional organizations and colleagues.

Though I am yet to win an

Though I am yet to win an award or fellowship or be selected for a training programme, IJNet has proven to be a reliable source of information that has informed my perception about certain issues pertaining to my chosen career.

So many topics on journalistic ethics (which are rarely taught to the fullest in schools) and web tools/online journalism (which is gradually becoming the order of the day but still a luxury to many journalists around me) are some of the areas I have benefitted from.

While IJNet also kept me abreast of events and happenings in the journalism world, it gave me a platform -discussion forum - to peer into the minds of practising journalists in areas I consider unfriendly and their approaches to issues of global relevance. The online presence of journalists from various parts of the world to discuss an issue creates an unquantifiable sense of belonging in me.

I need not say more. Everytime I miss my visit to IJNet site, I know how I feel. Thank you IJNet.
