Indigenous media occurs in a globalized world when each entity shares more local stories to its audience toward better empowering lives and communities. Local media just doing cut and paste of national and international news to inform, educate and entertain are nothing but branches of globalization, a subliminal form of imperialism.

With improved communication technology indegenous media has a little place in the globolized world. However, it has a position that is still crucial to the indegenous people. It must focuesd on the needds of the people at community level. Such media should concentrate of the what could be called community media and is still very vital and live particular where the modern media does not reach the people. shayo joseph

greetings i think indigenous media should really focus on content that is locally generated. that is making the people own the programs/content that is run on the radio. [radio because am a broadcaster]

issues, policies, and any other important information should be in accordance with the beliefs and culture of the local people that the media house broadcasts to. langauge is another important tool in indigenising the media. far from what i see nowadays about teh use of englsih by most FM radio stations here in Uganda, i would rather the copy-paste kind of journalism is stopped so that the broadcasters use the oocal language as a way of making their listeners understand and learn, rather than clinging on the Queen's language which they even 'butcher' in the process of speaking, as they try to copy western media. in other instances even nissues that would be of great importnce are poorly communicated and end up failing to serve the purpose for which they have been intended.

Hello all, My first questions are, indigenizing media knowledge as how? what of issues that have to with the media therioes? Can these theories be viewed from the perspective of local communities of the world? What curricula then are we talking about? Agreed that practitioners could practice in their local way of doing things, but that does not, in any way, mean indigenizing the factual content of the media. Facts are always fact anywhere anytime. So how are we thinking of localizing these facts I think scholars should called upon to discuss this isuue from the scholarship point of view. So also experienced practitioners should give their helping hand. As a matter of fact also what brought about such thinking? Is it for the simple reason that the western approach has failed the world or what? I do not believe that the current practice is a failure. unless if somebody could convince me beyond any reasonable doubt. what then could be the fate of globalization in this context? I think the indigenous media should always try and understand that, yes facts are sacred and are universal, but then the way on how they should be presented should differ from locality to locality. Indigenous media has advantages and disadvantages. Advantages in the sense that it give wider coverage by publishing stories that have a local touch especially those that affect their daily lives in their locality. By so doing if there are any problems, they are brought to light and tackled locally and internationally. But by putting emphasis to local stories it doesn't mean that such media outlets are cut off from the rest of the world. Not at all. What is done here is giving priority to local items at the rate of around 40 to 50 per cent. The remaining space if it's a newspaper should be allocated to other items concerning Africa, East or Central and the entire continent as a whole and the other parts of the world basing on proximity to respective newspaper, TV or Radio Station. Journalism is an art of feeding someone with news events. As such, it's not supposed to be of the same type lest it becomes boring. Here comes the essence of incorporating other global events so that your reader or listerner becomes really informed and entertained. I am not supporting the idea that there should be media willing to remain indigenous during this era of globalisation. However, most sub-saharan countries' media are still somehow 'indigenous' due to the critical misery in which they are operating. Most african media lack modern technologies so that they improve accordingly. They do not have enough money to use as it is the case in most developed western countries. Even journalists are paid low salaries to the point that the quality of their works is not good enough. Nevertheless, I hope that one day african media will get modern since journalism is being developed. Schools of journalism are being launched in some african countries and we hope that in the near future we will be having professional journalists. I cannot finish my discussion without asking western media organizations to think of assisting African media so that they get a step further in the development. Journalists worldwide have to support oneanother so that fraternity among media practitioners ( at a global level) be strengthened. I also propose that African media practitioners be invited in most workshops and conferences, which aim at improving journalism. Hello to all It may be a pity that in this 21st ccentury media reman at era of indigenism. And yet there are some media most of time in less developped countries of subsaharan africa that are still indigenous. It looks like people wearing clothes of leaves today. Materials do not exist and those that are used are from very ancient range and models. It also supposes that a printed press is not aware of new technologies in preparing the pages and even in printing the papers. In TV, it happens that some channells only own 2 or 3 cameras when in developped countries the number of cameras is big. In this situation, to broadcast live a football match is a load and a challenge because one or two cameras cannot focus all angles of thee spot.
