A good reporter must be able to give out the best of his best, and can even go to the extent of sacrificing personal needs in order to satisfy the mind of even a lay man. A good reporter must also be plain,simple,understandable and straight forward, with that primary aim of bringing out his total best in every context he expresses.

Ain't no such thing as a "calling". Being a good reporter entails truth, thorough research, no bias, objectivity and not being subjective, reporting requires you to have the human resources at your finger tips hence you have to be very social. A good reporter must also be a person who thinks and writes good. The curiosity is not enough! What do you do with the curiosity is the question. Like any other job out there, a good reporter must learn to be patient even if you have to meet deadlines. Dedication and hard work is a plus!

To make a good reporter is to be dedicated to his assigned field works, office works and to finish his or her works on time before either it is going to the printing media and electronic media. However, these don't work provided that there are teamworks between the reporter and the Editorial.

Understanding that Journalism goes with talent and ambition - a combination of the two would make a better ingredient for a good reporter. But the bus doe not stop there. One must understand and appreciate the issues at hand. The obsession with impartiality and balace is moer academic but going the extra mile to maintain that independence does count. When we explore all sides to the question impatially and tell it as it is, we demonstrate a commitment to set a new pace. We cannot dovorce ourselves from the culture that bind us together, the political association we ascribe to, the valued tendencies we uphold, the ideology we we seek to cherish but above all striving for the obtainable version of the truth must encomapss our hindsight. That is the hallmark of a good reporter. The preparednes to sift emaitions from truth. Truth must surely be our Gospel acccording to professionalism.

according to me good reporters must have at least 2 condition first credibility and second fairness , with this condition reporter will be able to serve people with balance and trusty reportage . but how ever it almost impossible to be free from bias, both government aspect and media redaction policy.

A reporter can be many things. If the reporter is not curious, however, he or she will never be a great reporter. You must have a questioning mind. Why? should be your most important question. Endlessly question about the "why" of the story. Then ask How? Why is the person giving you the information? How will the information affect the lives of your readers.

I don't believe in the "calling" thing. Good Reporters are hard-working men and women with a nose for the news and the ability to go out for it. They must be individuals capable of creating the necessary links and networks of informants and well-placed news sources that feed them with accurate information on issues of the day. They must above all, have the language ability to pass on the information they have through simple down-to-earth narrative that can be understood by everybody, including the man-in-the-street. Added to these qualities, good Reporters must be able to place issues within the correct context and analyse them appropriately in order to give the reader a good insight understanding of the issues reported about. This is my personal idea of a good Reporter.
