Awards reception

The Business Marketing Association is revamping its annual international awards program. It will introduce new top-tier categories and strengthen the spotlight that it shines on the marketers who earn B2 Awards.

“We’ve been fine-tuning and broadening the reach of the awards program,” says Marc Green, Director of Marketing Communications at Ingredion. He sits on the international board and serves on the B2 Awards committee. “And there is a big push to give the B2 ceremony its own space.”

Brighter spotlight

The association traditionally has held the awards ceremony at its annual conference, recognizing only a small portion of awards winners and posting the complete list of winners to a searchable web gallery.

This year the awards reception will occur the night before the conference begins, Green said. It will enjoy a longer time slot that can accommodate all super-category winners.

A webcast or video, slated for release in April, will announce winners in additional areas.

Marketer of the Year
Must be nominated by a third party

Category changes will start at the top, Green said. The association will recognize traditional categories and top awards, including agency and corporate marketers of the year, but also individual marketers and vendors or service providers of the year.

A blue-ribbon panel of judges will review candidates and recognize winners from small, midsize and large organizations.

Nominees will be judged on criteria such as growth, community activity, honors received in 2013 and case studies. Vendors and service providers will be judged based on the innovative nature of products and services introduced to help B2B marketers.

Candidates competing in the marketer of the year category must be nominated by a third party and will be judged based on individual accomplishments.

Expanded categories

The association will add a content marketing division, Green said. Organizers will continue to encourage the growth of submissions in emerging categories. While traditional areas including integrated marketing, print and corporate branding continue to attract the highest volume of submissions, new media categories are gaining steam. In 2013, for example, social media submissions grew by about 25% year-over-year, Green said.
