Award honors stories on children and families [US]

Journalists in the United States covering disadvantaged children and families can enter a competition.
The Journalism Center on Children & Families presents the Casey Medals for Meritorious Journalism, honoring coverage of youth and families. Winning stories will offer a fresh take on a significant issue, show reporting and researching enterprise and demonstrate impact.
First-place winners receive US$1,000 and are honored at a ceremony in Washington in October. Categories include: newspaper, video, magazine/nondail, audio, multimedia and photojournalism. A youth media category was added in 2012. The awards are funded by The Annie E. Casey Foundation.
Work must have been published or broadcast between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012.
There is a US$50 fee per entry, except in the youth media category, which has an entry fee of US$30.
The application deadline is March 1 at 5 p.m. EST.
