Citizen journalists and professional reporters can win prizes by downloading mobile news app Meporter.

Meporter, a location-based news app that enables users to report the news through their mobile phones, is offering cash prizes ranging from US$500 to US$5,000 to the first million people who download and use the application. A total of 22 prizes will be awarded in all.

The application allow users to write, photograph, video, post and distribute news live and on location from mobile phones.

The app, recently launched to much fanfare, is currently the only major citizen journalist app not tied to a news platform. Here's IJNet's run down of five major citizen journalist apps.
