Committee to Protect Journalists press freedom fellowship open

Journalists interested in press freedom can apply for a fellowship in New York City.
The Committee to Protect Journalists, CPJ has launched the Steiger Fellow program, a six-month fellowship established to honor Paul Steiger that starts on September 15, 2012. Steiger chaired CPJ from July 2005 to June 2011 and continues to serve on CPJ's advisory board.
The ideal candidate will be a current college student, recent graduate, or early career journalist with an interest in projects related to freedom of expression and the press. The Steiger fellow will carry out an independent project on press freedom while supporting CPJ staff and working on a variety of topics. This is a paid position and reports to the Senior Program Coordinator.
Qualifications include: knowledge of international press and human rights issues; completion of at least two years of college or university; excellent English writing and reporting skills and proficiency in a U.N. language (French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, or Arabic) is a plus.
The deadline for applications is August 1.
