Contest on human-rights, nondiscrimination journalism open [Mexico]

Journalists, communication specialists, photographers and cartoonists working in Mexico for print, television, radio or online media can participate in this contest.

Organized by the Fundación Manuel Buendía and the Mexico office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (ONU-DH México), among others, the Ninth National "Gilberto Rincón Gallardo" Faces of Discrimination Award seeks to recognize individuals whose work focuses on human rights and nondiscrimination.

The contest includes five categories: op-ed, cartoons, features, photography and news report. The entries must address one of the following groups: women, children, adolescents and youth, indigenous and Afro-descendant communities, LGBTI, older adults, people with disabilities, trafficking victims, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers or persons deprived of their liberty.

Entries must have been published or broadcast between June 30, 2012 and June 28, 2013. They must also have been published originally in Spanish and focus on an event, situation or reality in Mexico.

The winner of each category will receive MEX15,000 (US$1,185).

The deadline is June 28.
