Contest offers training on human rights reporting [Argentina]

Deadline:

9/17/12

Journalists interested in human rights issues can participate in this contest.

The contest, organized by the Foro de Periodismo Argentino (FOPEA), the Asociación por los Derechos Civiles (ADC) and the Red Internacional de Derechos Humanos (RIDH), will provide two journalists with round-trip tickets to Geneva, hotel and per diem to participate in a training course on human rights reporting.

The course will address the workings of the UN Human Rights Council and the UN Universal Periodic Review of the Republic of Argentina that the UN will undertake on October 22.

Candidates must be working for Argentinean newspapers, weekly magazines, news websites or national news agencies. Journalists freelancing for national or provincial newspapers are also eligible.

Each applicant should submit an unpublished story, in Spanish, on issues related to information access and human rights in journalism.

Acceptable topics include: the importance of access to information for the exercise of human rights; the use of access to improve news coverage; and the importance of access to information and data to analyze social issues including education, health and housing.

The deadline is September 17.
