Young student journalists and trainees from the United Kingdom can enter a competition.

The NCTJ Awards for Excellence, sponsored by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ), honor the best journalism students and journalism trainees. Journalists and photographers with under two years of experience are eligible.

There are five categories available: news, sports, top scoop/exclusive, feature of the year and image of the year. A student and trainee will be awarded in each category.

Work must have been produced between September 1, 2011, and August 31, 2012. Awards will be presented at the Journalism Skills Conference, which takes place November 28 - November 29 in Nottingham.

The submission deadline is September 14.
