Photographers worldwide who are at least 18 years of age can participate in a contemporary portrait contest.

The Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2013 will award its first-place winner £12,000 (about US$18,255), and one or more shortlisted photographers will be awarded cash prizes at the judges' discretion. The entry fee for this competition is £24.00 (about $US36) per photograph entered.

The Portrait Prize is organized by the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Applicants are encouraged to interpret "portrait" in a way that highlights the unique identity of individuals the subject.

Each applicant can submit up to six photographs.

The deadline is July 8.
