Deadline approaching: World Press Freedom Prize 2013 [Worldwide]
Deadline:
Journalists worldwide can be nominated for this prize.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), through its UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize, seeks to honor a person, organization or institution that has made an outstanding contribution to the defense and/or promotion of press freedom anywhere in the world, especially when this has been achieved in the face of danger.
The prize, named in honor of Guillermo Cano Isaza, an assassinated Colombian journalist, aims to reward journalists who have shown dedication in the name of freedom of expression and information.
Only Member States, regional and international organizations, and professional and non-governmental organizations working in the field of journalism and freedom of expression can nominate candidates.
Nominations should be submitted by filling out a form in English or French.
The winner will be presented with US$25,000. This year’s prize will be awarded on May 3, World Press Freedom Day.
The deadline is Feb. 15.
