Journalistic works on development initiatives in the northeast of Brazil are eligible for a prize.

Brazil's Banco do Nordeste is organizing a competition to stimulate debate and raise awareness on the importance of innovative actions in development, with emphasis on the democratization of credit, economic growth and social inclusion in one of the poorest regions of Brazil.

Stories should have been published or broadcast in one of Brazil's nine northeastern states, northern Minas Gerais and northern Espírito Santo.

A total of BR$171,000 (about US$90,000) will be distributed across one grand-prize and winners in print, broadcast, photo, online and student categories.

The deadline is January 10.
