Editorial competition seeks entries on local issues [US]

Deadline:

5/6/11

Newspapers in the U.S. can submit opinion pieces and editorials to a competition.

The Carmage Walls Commentary Prize, sponsored by the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association (SNPA), encourages thoughtful, courageous and constructive editorial page leadership on local issues relevant to each newspaper’s primary readership.

Each entry can consist of up to six separate opinion pieces, editorials or columns published between January 1, 2010 and April 30, 2011. The entries must cover the same subject.

Awards will be presented in two categories: newspapers with circulation of over 50,000 and one for papers with under 50,000 circulation. In each category, the first-place winner will receive US$1,000 and the second-place winner will receive US$500.

The cost per entry is US$25. Winners will be recognized at the News Industry Summit in Williamsburg, Virginia from October 9 to 11.
