Journalists who report on solid waste in Brazil can compete for a prize.

The prize, offered by the Brazilian Association of Public Cleaning and Special Waste ((ABRELPE), aims to stimulate national debate about the role of the government, society and businesses in the management of solid waste. This year's theme is "Waste Management in the 21st Century: What Lies Ahead."

Submissions must have been published or broadcast in Brazil between October 1, 2011, and September 30, 2012. The categories are: newspaper, magazine, radio and television.

The winner in each category will receive a certificate and BR$5,000 (about US$2,500). The overall winner will receive a trophy and BR$15,000 (about US$7,500).

The deadline is October 10.
