Journalists from EU member states can apply.

The European Commission is hosting the fifth edition of the EU Health Prize for Journalists. It is awarded to stimulate high-quality journalism that raises awareness of issues related to health care and patient rights.

Print and online articles should cover EU health policy initiatives and be published between Aug. 1, 2012 and Sept. 30, 2013.

There is one nominee per member state. All national nominees are invited to Brussels for the award ceremony, where the winner will receive EUR€6,5000 (US$8,541). Second place will receive EUR€4,000 (US$5,255), and third place EUR€2,500 (US$3,285).

The deadline is Sept. 30.
