Fellowship in Canada open [Latin America, Caribbean]
Deadline:
Journalists from Latin America and the Caribbean can apply for a fellowship in Canada.
The Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE), in collaboration with Scotiabank, is offering the Scotiabank/CJFE Fellowship, held for two semesters at Massey College in the University of Toronto. The program starts in September and runs until the close of the spring semester in April.
The objective of the fellowship is to enhance inter-American understanding and promote dialogue through an exploration of current issues in journalism and free expression in the Americas.
The fellowship is open to applicants who have a minimum of seven years of experience and are working as journalists in Latin America or the Caribbean. Applicants should have proficiency in English. Participants must have the endorsement of their current employers, and must plan to resume employment upon completion of the fellowship.
The Scotiabank/CJFE fellow is expected to enroll in graduate or undergraduate courses and is able to use the full facilities of the university. There are no educational prerequisites for a fellowship, nor does the fellow receive credits or degrees for work done during the year.
Applications should include a proposal for a plan of study on an issue of choice, and should note how this issue will be explored from a free-expression perspective.
The fellowship includes a stipend, all university costs, travel expenses, accommodation, meals and university health insurance.
The deadline to apply is March 1.
