Fellowship for editorial writing open [US]

Deadline:

6/22/13

Midcareer editorial writers or columnists working for U.S. outlets can apply for a US$75,000 fellowship.

The Society of Professional Journalists is accepting applications for the Eugene C. Pulliam Fellowship, which enables journalists to have time away from daily responsibilities to take courses, pursue independent study, travel or pursue other endeavors that enrich their knowledge of a public interest issue.

Fellowships result in editorials and other writings, including books. Fellows must publish work within 18 months of selection.

Applicants must have at least three years of experience as an editorial writer or columnist, demonstrate outstanding writing abilities and receive an editor or publisher's endorsement to pursue the fellowship without jeopardizing employment.

Applicants must submit a cover letter, project timeline and proposal, the editor's endorsement, a one-page bio and five work samples by June 22.
