Fellowships for course on covering conflict zones open [Africa]
Deadline:
African journalists who cover areas of conflict can apply for a fellowship to attend a course in Addis Ababa.
The African Centre for Peace and Security Training (ACPST), the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), the Directorate of Information and Communication (DIC) and the African Union (AU) are offering a course entitled "Reporting on Dangerous Zones: Journalism as Peacebuilding."
The course will provide guidance to journalists reporting on dangerous zones plagued by violent conflicts, terrorism and transnational crime.
The course will focus on four broad areas: excellent reporting in dangerous zones, ethical reporting in dangerous zones, journalism as peacebuilding and conflict prevention, and how to survive dangerous zones.
Participants are required to be highly proficient in English. French-speakers should apply for the French version of the course, which will be offered simultaneously.
The ACPST can fund the participation of a few applicants including their travel, accommodation and tuition costs. Awards will be based on need and require a clear motivation in the cover letter. The ACPST will cover lunch for all applicants throughout the course.
To apply, send a short cover letter and CV with contact information and that of two references to Golda Kengat at gkengATissafrica.org by October 31. Using the subject line "Reporting" will prevent your application from getting lost.
