Journalists interested in disaster reporting can apply for a spot in this program.

The East-West Center presents the Disaster Management and Resiliency in the Asia Pacific Journalism Fellowships program, a two-week study tour to the United States, China and Japan.

The fellowship will introduce participating journalists to a broad range of disaster management and recovery activities, as well as post-disaster challenges to political, economic and energy resiliency. Study tour destinations include New York City, Tokyo, Sendai and Chengdu.

Journalists from the following countries can apply: Australia, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Taiwan, Tonga and Vanuatu. In addition, participant-paid positions will be held open for qualified journalists who come from Asia Pacific countries not listed. Journalists who specialize in topics related to the specific theme are preferred and effort will be taken to include news organizations with national and global reach.

Midcareer journalists with at least seven years of journalism experience and English fluency are eligible. Media professionals from print, broadcast and online news organizations, including reporters, writers, editors, producers, columnists, bloggers and editorial writers can apply.

The program covers all air transportation, lodging and program-related ground transportation and meals throughout the program, scheduled for September 22 - October 6.

The application deadline is May 14.
