Group calls for end to press violence in Somalia
A Somali journalists’ rights group has called for the help of the international community to come together to support freedom of expression in Somalia.
The Somali Journalists Rights Association (SOJRA) has called upon local human rights organizations, journalists, media organizations and centers as well as the UN.
The campaign is in conjunction with the annual “9 Days of activism against press violence” campaign, which strives to remind people that action must be taken to fight for press freedom in Somalia. SOJRA is calling for full implementation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted and proclaimed in 1948 by the General assembly of the UN, which says every one has the right to freedom of opinion and expression.
