Hacks/Hackers to discuss drone journalism
Date:
Hacks/Hackers will host a meetup in San Francisco on drone journalism with Wired's Chris Anderson, Tyler Brown of the Occucopter project and the Electronic Frontier Foundation's Jennifer Lynch.
Drones aren't just for the military anymore. Remote-controlled flying devices are becoming more widely available and journalists have begun to consider their use in reporting. That may or may not be a good thing and panelists have strong opinions on both sides of the topic. Panelists will discuss the state of the art in the field, open source projects, how to build your own drone and what not to do.
Hacks and Hackers has chapters spanning from Birmingham U.K. to Mexico City. Launched in 2009 by Burt Herman of Storify, Rich Gordon professor of digital innovation at Northwestern University and Aron Pilhofer of The New York Times, these informal gatherings offer insight on how journalism is evolving with technology.
