An international competition of ecological films, videos in Czech Republic

Date: 12/12/98

Amateur and professional filmmakers are invited to enter films on "the ecological aspects of human beings in today's world" at the 23rd annual festival, "It's Up to You Too," (IUTYT) in UhereskИ Hradiцte, Czech Republic, to be held November 24-29, according to an announcement from Klub Kultury.

Accepted films will be presented, judged and eligible for prizes. First prize is 10,000 Czech crowns.

Forms for film entry and personal participation are available until October 30, and requests for accommodations will be taken until November 10. Successful film entrants will be notified by November 10. Films will be returned within a month after the competition.

IUTYT is an international thematic film and video festival that includes expert, cultural and social programs, lectures, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, and art programs. The aim of the festival is to inform the public about film and TV documentaries that consider the effects of human activity on the environment.

The festival began when communist censorship limited the freedom of film creators. Mostly, ecological problems were taboo for publicists. The need for truth inspired local enthusiasts to organize an amateur film screening.
