Journalism award on minority coverage open [Brazil]

Journalists can apply for an award promoting media coverage on minority-related issues in Brazil.
The Abdias Nascimento Journalism Award highlights the production of journalistic content that contributes to racism-prevention and fights racial inequality.
The award is named after journalist Abdias Nascimento, human rights activist and icon of the struggle against racism in Brazil.
Organized by the Union of Professional Journalists in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the award features seven categories: print media, television, radio, community or alternative media, photography, Internet and gender issues. The best entry from each category will receive BR$5,000 (about US$2,500).
Among the suggested topics are: health among the black population, religious intolerance, black youth, affirmative action, entrepreneurship, inequality, human rights, race relations, public policy, population/traditional communities and racial discrimination.
The application deadline is July 31.
