Journalism fellowship on immigration, elections open

U.S. journalists interested in the role of immigration role in 2012 presidential elections can apply for a fellowship.

The Institute for Justice and Journalism is organizing “Immigration in the Heartland: the 2012 Elections and Beyond," a five-day program at the University of Oklahoma.

The program will cover how immigration and related economic issues are affecting the U.S. election debate and how journalists can cut through political rhetoric to produce accurate coverage. Lodging, travel and meal costs are included.

Fellows will receive US$500 upon publication of a reporting project. Topics must be immigration-related, but stories related to the elections will receive special consideration.

Applicants must submit a project proposal with intended publication outlet, statement of interest, work samples and one letter of recommendation by January 17.
