Journalism fellowships at The Economist and Financial Times open

Deadline:

3/31/12

Journalists or aspiring journalists in the European Union can apply for a fellowship.

The aim of the Nico Colchester Journalism Fellowship is to foster better understanding of the EU.

Two awards are available this year - one British or Irish applicant will receive a fellowship in continental Europe at the Financial Times and one applicant from elsewhere in the European Union will be in London at The Economist. Both winners receive UK£5,000 (about US$7,833) to cover accommodation and travel.

This fellowship was established in memory of Nico Colchester, who wrote for the Financial Times, The Economist and the Economist Intelligence Unit about foreign, especially European, affairs as well as technology and business.

Colchester's work was known for its originality and humor and preference will be given to applicants who reflect those traits.

Applicants must submit a 1,000-word essay on the topic, “Is Europe’s problem German strength or German weakness?” along with a resume and cover letter. Entries should be sent by email only to ncprizeATeconomist.com by March 31, 2012.
