New journalism prize in Brazil to recognize works on Internet safety

A new prize will be awarded to journalists in Brazil whose works have contributed to disseminating information on Web safety. Application deadline: February 16.
Movimento Internet Segura (MIS) and Câmara Brasileira de Comércio Eletrônico (camara-e.net) created the prize with the goal of motivating the press to produce information that helps Internet users protect themselves in the virtual world. The organizers will also recognize digital companies that educate people on dangers on the Internet. Prizes range from BR$36,000 (about US$20,000) to BR$12,000.
The competition is open to professionals in the online media, newspapers, magazines, radio and TV. Applicants must send up to two works published or broadcast in 2007. The prize has three categories: economy and business, consumer defense and technology.
