NewsU at Poynter offers free legal guide for journalists [Worldwide]
Journalists interested in learning about legal aspects of newsgathering can attend this free online training session.
News University, a Poynter Institute e-learning project, is offering a webinar titled "Newsgathering Law & Liability: A Guide for Reporting."
Course instructor, Harvard University fellow David Ardia, will discuss the level of permission reporters must get to gather news in a location.
Participants will practice interviewing sources and see what promises should and shouldn't be made to them. Ardia will also discuss reporters' rights and how to handle documents and other materials.
This free course is self-directed, and can begin and end at any time.
