Nigeria Union of Journalists to review its constitution

Date: 12/10/98

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has completed plans for a special delegates conference in Yola, where the union's constitution is to be reviewed to accommodate amendments recommended by the Constitutional Review Committee four years ago, the Independent Journalism Centre (IJC) in Lagos reported.

The group's national secretary, Mallam Mohammed Khalid, said the constitutional conference was set for November 19-21. He said the union's National Executive Council decided to hold the conference to review the constitution, which was said to have been overdue such action, IJC reported. Khalid also said the review committee had recommended many amendments that could not be adopted easily without convening the scheduled event in Yola. Khalid called on union members to begin preparations and ensure the success of the conference.
