Online course in new media tactics for democratic change [Worldwide]

Date: 7/8/11

Cost:

350.00 USD

A online media course on the impact of new online technology is being offered.

The impact on social dynamics is evident from how Barack Obama's campaign mobilized youth to the ongoing uprisings across the Middle East and North Africa. This three-week online professional development certificate course will evaluate case studies where new technologies have been used for activism and what factors and contexts are most influential on outcomes.

Organized by Tech Change: The Institute for Technology and Social Change, the course consists of presentations, discussions, case studies, group exercises and simulations. Held from Sept. 26 - Oct. 14, participants will learn about the roles of technology in preventing and responding to social crises.

The course will be primarily delivered asynchronously with one designated time each week for simultaneous learning. The total time commitment is a minimum of 5-7 hours a week. There will be a number of interactive and social features to allow participants to experience content at their own pace.
