Organization of American States hosts photography contest on indigenous peoples

Deadline:

6/9/13

Professional and amateur photographers can participate in this contest.

The Department of International Law of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Art Museum of the Americas (AMA) are organizing the “Indigenous Perspectives” photography competition. All those interested are invited to tell stories about the indigenous peoples of the Americas through pictures.

Photographs must contain characteristic elements of the indigenous peoples of the Americas (objects, people, places, arts and crafts, cuisine, work, social situation). In essence, the competition seeks to focus on the photographer's vision of the indigenous world as a key player in the social process.

Only digital photos will be accepted – that is, images shot with a digital camera or digitized from scanned negatives or hard copies. Each contestant may enter up to three photos.

The selected photographs will be published by the Department of International Law in its website and volumes produced within the project "Action Plan for the Promotion of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples of the Americas."

Additionally, the top 20 photographs will be exhibited by the OAS in coordination with the AMA. The winning contestant will receive a free trip to the opening event in Washington.

The deadline is June 9.
