Journalists who have used social science tools -- from probabilities to survey research -- in their work may apply for the Philip Meyer Award. Deadline: October 31.

Works must have been published or broadcast between October 1, 2007 and September 30, 2008. Entries can be in all languages but must include three hard copies of English translations each.

The first, second and third places will receive US$500, US$300 and US$200 respectively. The winners will be honored at the 2009 CAR Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The prize is organized by the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting, a joint program of IRE and the Missouri School of Journalism, and co-sponsored by the Knight Chair in Journalism at Arizona State University.

Established in 2005, the prize was named after Philip Meyer, a pioneer journalist in computer-assisted reporting, currently Knight Chair in Journalism at University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
