Press freedom award seeks entries [Middle East]

Journalists from the Middle East, Mediterranean and Gulf regions can compete for a EU€10,000 (about US$13,269) prize.

The European Union seeks entries for the Samir Kassir Award for Freedom of the Press, named after the Lebanese journalist and author who was assassinated in 2005.

Print and online journalists who are citizens of the following countries are eligible: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Occupied Palestinian Territory, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen. The article can be published in one of the above countries or a European Union member state.

Applicants can submit only one article related to human rights, including good governance, the fight against corruption, freedom of expression, etc. The full article must be submitted with an English translation, proof of publication and a resume.

The competition features two categories - best opinion piece and best investigative reporting - and each winner receives the cash prize at a ceremony in Beirut.
