Program to help Mexican journalists cover health, disease prevention

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) announces a new program that will give journalists from Mexico the skills to better report on health and disease prevention. The program will be held in Ixtapan de la Sal, Mexico State, from July 16 to 18. Deadline: July 1.

Participants will learn a multitude of skills essential for providing the public with needed information on health and disease prevention. Sessions will be taught by experts, including experienced reporters and editors. The program is being sponsored by Pfizer Mexico.

üAmong the topics on the agenda are: identifying reliable sources of health information on the Web, multimedia health reporting tips, ethical issues in health coverage, press freedom and access to health information, equipment and technical needs for health and disease prevention coverage

Applicants may qualify if they are from the states of Jalisco, Nuevo Leon, Puebla, Yucatan, Veracruz, Guanajuato, Baja California, Federal District, and Mexico State. The program will be conducted primarily in Spanish. Only 30 participants will be selected and travel, accommodation, food, material, and local transportation will be provided.
