Reuters offers rural poverty reporting course [Africa]

Deadline:

9/3/12

Journalists interested in reporting on rural communities can attend this course in Tanzania.

TrustMedia, a Thomson Reuters Foundation Service, is offering a course on rural poverty reporting.

This training workshop, to run concurrently with the African Green Revolution Forum (AGRF), will allow journalists from Africa to gain the skills required to cover the issues facing rural people and their communities, and bring these to the attention of policy-and decision-makers on a national and regional level.

Journalists will attend one session of the AGRF, spend a day visiting an International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) project on the ground, as well as spending time in a workshop. Workshop sessions will address issues such as basic economics of food production, market access, competition for resources, population movements and access to water.

The Thomson Reuters Foundation, through IFAD funding and support, offers full bursaries for journalists from developing world countries working for established media organizations. Bursaries include air travel expenses (economy class), accommodation, transfers and meals. Please note that visa costs or any other additional costs will be the responsibility of the participant. This arrangement is subject to variation.

The application deadline is September 3.
