Journalists whose work is published or broadcast in the United States can apply for an award.

The Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards honor outstanding reporting on human rights, social justice and the power of individual action in the U.S. and around the world.

The contest features five categories - print, TV, radio, photography and editorial cartoon - and two sub-categories - domestic and international news coverage. Online-based media are also eligible.

Each category winner receives US$1,000 and a bust of Robert Kennedy. The grand-prize winner receives an additional cash prize.

The entry fee is US$75. The deadline is February 1.
