Science journalism contest open [Mexico]

Mexican journalists, communication professionals and students can participate in this contest.

The Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología (CONACYT) is organizing the Premio Nacional de Periodismo y Divulgación Científica 2013, which seeks to recognize the work of journalists and communicators who focus on science, technology and innovation and encourage greater presence of Mexican science, technology and innovation in the country’s media.

The contest is open to all Mexican journalists and communicators or foreign nationals living in Mexico who submit pieces on science, technology and innovation, developed in the country or abroad by Mexican scientists, published in any medium (print, radio, television and Mexican Internet sites).

The contest is also open to all students actively studying communication, journalism or sciences in any public or private school in the country.

Pieces submitted to similar contests will be accepted if they did not win such contests. Participants can only submit one entry.

The pieces must have been published between January 1 and December 31, 2012.

The winners of the contest will win cash prizes as high as MXN$50.000 pesos (about US$4,000).

The deadline is August 9.
