Writers and editors can apply for a job at the National Museum of Natural History in Washington.

The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), one of the most-visited museums in the United States, seeks a writer for its expanding development team.

Reporting to the Museum’s director of strategic communications, the writer will draft proposals, fundraising publications, and communication materials for individuals, foundations and corporations; interview selected program staff to develop and draft compelling story lines about their work; and draft selected copy for the Museum’s website.

Candidates should have demonstrated skills in writing for a variety of audiences (donors, the public, media) and platforms, and in a variety of writing styles; ability to draft materials on a wide range of topics; ability to translate complex scientific and technical ideas into language easily comprehensible to non-specialists; ability to understand and synthesize perspectives from diverse stakeholders; and ideally experience in writing for both fundraising and non-fundraising purposes.
