Social Change Institute documentary contest open

Indigenous filmmakers whose work relates to social issues can enter a contest.

First People's Worldwide (FPW) and the Social Change Film Festival & Institute (SCFFI) are accepting both documentary and fiction submissions from indigenous filmmakers for the second annual Social Change Film Festival & Institute, which will take place November 28th to December 2nd, 2012 in New Orleans. FPW will moderate a panel on the importance of film.

Indigenous communities are those that practice unique traditions and maintain social, cultural, economic and political characteristics that are distinct from the dominant societies in which they live. For more information on the characteristics of indigenous populations, click here (.pdf).

Each film must be have a strong social message, should be of high production value in sound and picture, and must demonstrate elegant and compelling editing skills. The film must have been completed no earlier than January 1, 2008. Submissions must be made available with the original language soundtrack and English subtitles. All films must be submitted on DVD format.

The winner will be flown to New Orleans to accept the award and attend the festival.

The submission deadline is September 30.
