Wikileak to help journalists publish investigative pieces

Date: 7/14/08

The site Wikileak, popular for providing government documents and leaks to the public via the Internet, is scrapping the “wiki” model. Instead, it plans to pre-release documents to investigative journalists and publish them after the story appears.    Since its initiation the site has been able to avoid government censorship because of a lack of knowledge about the servers and their locations.     While many authorities have implemented laws to restrict government criticism on the Internet, the site has managed to escape such censorship.      A spokesman for one known server, Assange, says the new model gives reporters more time to analyze and validate documents without fear of being caught.   For more information, visit http://www.wired.com/politics/onlinerights/news/2008/07/wikileaks?currentPage=3
