Workshop to examine freedom of expression, journalists' rights in Latin America

The U.S.-based Institute of the Americas is offering a workshop on freedom of expression and journalists' rights in Latin America, scheduled to take place January 11 to 15, 2010 in La Jolla, California. Registration is ongoing.

The workshop will focus on the essential value of press freedom and the threat against journalism in the region, especially in countries where democracy is weak. The course includes a trip to Tijuana, during which participants will observe how journalists work in an environment infested by drug cartels.

Registration costs US$3,000.
