Writing competition looks at rights of Arab women

Deadline:

11/30/07

Journalists and students in the Middle East and North Africa can enter a writing competition on the theme, “The Arab Woman and the Law,” organized by the Arab Center for Research and Training (Cawtar). Deadline: November 30.

The competition has two categories. The first is open to print and online journalists whose articles are published from July 1, 2007, to February 28, 2008. Topics could include Arab women and financial rights, civil and political rights, or laws that address the personal status of women. The winner of this category receives US$2,000.

The contest’s second category is for journalism students who have produced a bulletin related to this topic during the 2007-2008 academic year. The press clubs at the students’ academic institutions should submit the entry form. The winner of this category receives US$2,500.

Participants must apply by November 30, 2007, for works published afterward to be eligible. For entry forms or more details, contact Lubna Najjar at info@cawtar.org.
