  • Tech journalists form new club in Almaty

    A new club in Kazakhstan says its mission is to improve coverage of information technology and foster dialogue among journalists on the tech beat.

    The IT Journalists Club (ITJC) formed last month in Almaty, organized by the local MediaNet International Journalism Center. Alexei Bendz, development manager for MediaNet, told IJNet that the next session is planned for July.

  • Project to strengthen science journalism in Africa, Middle East

    Science journalists in Africa and the Middle East have the chance to participate in a three-year project to improve scientific reporting in those regions.

    The World Federation of Science Journalists (WFSJ) announced the project on February 19. The organizers will select 60 aspiring science journalists – 20 each from the Middle East and Anglophone and Francophone Africa – to participate.

  • CNN awards to include category for AIDS reporting

    The upcoming CNN/MultiChoice African Journalist Awards announced a new category for HIV and AIDS reporting in Africa. Submission deadline: March 7.

    The organizers also plan a special briefing session for more than 50 journalists expected to attend the ceremony, planned for July in Maputo, Mozambique.

    A new online resource aims to connect Asian journalists with experts in various fields of academic research, to help add depth and expertise to news coverage.

    ResearchSEA is Asia's first service to connect the news media with new studies and findings from universities, journals and researchers, according to Managing Director Magdeline Pokar.

  • Scholarships available for U.S. science journalism workshop

    Latin American journalists have until April 7 to apply for a scholarship to participate in a science and technology workshop in California.

    The Jack F. Ealy workshop is scheduled for July 6 to 14. The Institute of the Americas will organize the event, with the support of Juan Francisco Ealy, general director of the Mexican daily El Universal, and the University of California-San Diego. Program organizers hope the event will help improve reporting skills on scientific issues.

  • Workshop on science reporting open to East Asian journalists
