  • Women journalists to discuss obstacles at workshop

    A specialized workshop in Yemen, aimed at helping women journalists discuss their common concerns and problems, is scheduled for January 22 and 23 in Sana’a.

    The Yemeni Female Media Forum (YFMF) and the Joint Yemeni Media Development Program are organizing the workshop. Participants will discuss a study conducted last year by the YFMF with support from the U.S.-based National Endowment for Democracy.

  • Yemeni women get training on news, online publishing

    More than two dozen Yemeni journalists should be better equipped to cover women’s issues and launch their own Web sites, after a recent training program in Sana’a.

    Organized by the Yemeni Female Media Forum (YFMF), the 11-day program included 28 women who work for private and state-run news media, many of them as Web site editors. A major goal of the training was to improve their professionalism and credibility when reporting on women’s issues.

  • Palestinian women attend journalism training in Paris

    Paris was the location for a recent two-week training program that gathered 12 Palestinian women to improve their journalism and management skills.

    UNESCO sponsored the training as part of its International Program for Development of Communication (IPDC). The Al-Jazeera Training and Development Center conducted the course.

  • Five women journalists awarded for courage

    Two press freedom organizations recently honored five women from four countries – Sierra Leone, Swaziland, Tunisia and Vietnam – for courageous journalism in the face of persecution.

    International PEN’s Emergency Fund presents the annual Novib/PEN prize, which grants EU?2,500 (about US$2,950) to journalists who have been imprisoned or persecuted and are in financial need. The award ceremony took place November 19 in the Netherlands.
