    October 15 is the deadline for entry applications for the 1998 Lorenzo Natali Prize for Journalism, according to the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ). The prize, offered by the European Commission, honors the late Lorenzo Natali, who was vice president of the Commission of the European Communities. Candidates for the prize should be individual journalists working in the print media. They should submit written articles that address democracy or human rights as vital aspects of development.

    Reuters Foundation announces through its web page that News World is inviting nominations for the 2nd Annual Mohamed Amin Award. The award is open to reporters, producers, crew, technicians, fixers, drivers, individuals or groups, whatever their role, who in the opinion of their colleagues and employers, performed an act of outstanding courage, professional skill or initiative over the past year. Entries can come from individuals or organizations but must be accompanied by a citation from the editor/manager of a bona fide news organization.
