  • Youth journalism project initiated in Ukraine

    Youth from Ukraine, Belarus and Poland are invited to participate in the "Youth Multimedia Initiative" project, which aims to share knowledge of journalism with young people to help them make a difference.

    The project, under the theme "I Have a Choice. I Have Influence. I Have Media," was initiated in Ukraine on November 16.

  • Literature competition for Russian children

    Young Russian writers and poets are encouraged to submit their entries to a competition sponsored by the charitable foundation "Sodeystvie," which means "assistance." The contest's goals are to identify and support talented young writers and promote creative dialogue among them. The organizers especially seek to reach orphans and youngsters in foster care.

    Young filmmakers (under age 25) can submit one-minute videos for a contest to promote and protect children's interests. The deadline for submitting entries is August 1.

    Video entries should show what child rights mean in a global, national or community sense, demonstrate how children's rights are not being fulfilled, or show where children are getting adequate rights.

  • Fellowships focused on children’s issues available for journalists

    Journalists from Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Kenya, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, the Caribbean countries, and the Indian region of Orissa are invited to apply for the 2009 Oscar van Leer Fellowships, a four-week, expenses-paid training in journalism and childhood development as well as children’s rights, in the Netherlands. Deadline: August 18.

  • Saudi TV channel to focus on child rights education

    The first TV channel in Saudi Arabia dedicated to educating children about their rights will begin broadcasting this month, reported the Saudi Gazette.

    The new channel, Sana, is an offshoot of the three-year-old Children’s Rights Awareness campaign, which was launched by the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information.
