A seminar in Chile will highlight the importance of science in society with the goal of developing and deepening interest in science journalism.

The October 5 seminar will discuss a range of topics, including the limits and the possibilites of science journalism. Presentations will highlight examples of effective science journalism from around the world.

Iberoamerican journalists who cover science are invited to a meeting on November 11 and 12 in Ecuador that will debate issues surrounding water and biodiversity. Deadline: October 31.

The event will offer tools and strategies to achieve communicational goals related to science journalism.

Journalists from Africa and the Arab world can apply for an intensive two-year training in science journalism, available in Arabic, English and French. The training will begin in September. Deadline to apply: April 24.

A competition is seeking nominations of the best works about science published in journals owned by the International Academic Publishing Company Nauka("Science") in 2009. Deadline: April 15.

Fifty winners will be selected. Articles must have been published between January 1 and December 31, 2009.
