  • International organization to publish peace building guide for youth radio

    A new guidebook to be released in January is aimed at helping African radio stations – the continent’s most influential medium – encourage peace through the use of youth programs.

    The guidebook is a publication of the Radio for Peacebuilding Africa (RFPA) program, organized by the U.S.-based NGO Search for Common Ground. The program also has included surveys of radio journalists, training workshops, and training materials for radio staff and media schools in Africa.

  • Media fellowship open to Arabs in Israel

    Two Israeli media outlets have launched a long-term employment program for young Arabs in Israel. “The Israeli Rainbow” program is now accepting applications.

    The two-year program, established by the Kashet-Israel Channel 2 and the Israeli Jewish-Arab newspaper Du-Et, aims to help integrate Israeli Arabs into the country’s media industry. Du-Et is an initiative of the Citizens’ Accord Forum (CAF) between Jews and Arabs in Israel.

  • Public information access theme of Argentine competition

    Argentine journalists and students who formally petition for public documents in their reporting are eligible for a competition titled “Si es P?blico no Debe Ser Secreto,” or “If it’s public, it shouldn’t be secret.” Winners receive a trip to the United Kingdom.

  • Experienced journalists encourage youth at conference

    Experienced African reporters offered words of encouragement to young, would-be journalists attending a two-day summit for young people in Mali.

    The summit, held on December 3 and 4, is dedicated to the future of young Africans. Four veteran journalists wrote letters to the young people to encourage them into the field while also warning them of the difficulties of reporting in Africa. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) published the letters on its Web site.

  • Journalism school launches documentary training

    December 8 is the deadline for Georgian journalists to apply for a course on producing documentaries. The course is scheduled for December 12 to 17 in Tbilisi.

    Soundtracks, writing scripts, composition and basic production are among the topics to be covered. Polish documentary producer Maciek Drygas will conduct the course at the Caucasus School of Journalism and Media Management.
