Journalists who cover human rights and drug trafficking or are reporters in violent regions in Mexico can register for a course in Mexico City. There are 20 spots available for journalists. Deadline: November 14.

Paraguayan journalists can participate in a seminar on human rights and dictatorship on October 19.

Organized by the Human RIghts Coordinator in Paraguay, the seminar will teach journalists the recent history of the country based on the Truth and Justice Commission.

Journalists with experience in high-risk reporting can apply for a course on safe coverage offered by the Center for Digital Journalism at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico.

The course is free, and will include two classes in Mexico.

Chilean journalists covering poverty and social integration can enter a competition.

The contest, sponsored by Comunicación y Pobre, awards journalists raising awareness on social issues. Submissions can be in print, online or broadcast media, and must have been published between November 30, 2009 and October 30, 2010.
