  • Sports meeting brings Arab journalists to Maruitania

    More than 50 Arab sports journalists participated in a two-day meeting on the role of sport journalism in society, PANA news agency reported.

    The meeting, held in Nouakchott, Mauritania August 21 to 22, was organized by the Arab Union of Sports Journalists and the Mauritanian Association of Sports Commentators.

  • Workshop will prepare sports journalists for 2010 World Cup

    Journalists interested in improving their sports writing skills, especially in preparation for covering the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, are encouraged to register for a three-day workshop. The course is scheduled for June 26 to 30.

    The workshop will cover in-depth sports reporting skills, such as interviewing techniques and how to write features. Ethics in sports reporting and media law issues will also be addressed.

    Argentine graphic designers and photojournalists will meet in Buenos Aires for a workshop on the visual side of covering this year's World Cup in Germany. The workshop is scheduled for May 12.

  • Arab sports journalists meet in Tunisia

    Sports journalist from across the Arab world gathered to discuss their craft and new trends in sports coverage from April 12 to 14 in Tunisia.

    The forum focused on Arab sports media and coverage of major international sporting events, such as the Olympics or the World Cup. The Arab Football Union (UAFA) organized the forum in cooperation with Tunisia's National Olympic Committee, the Tunisian Union of Football, and the Arab Union of Sports Journalists.

  • Media service offers resources for World Cup coverage

    The German government is trying to make things easier for the throngs of journalists expected to cover the 2006 World Cup.

    It has created a multilingual, online service with information and photos on Germany and the countries participating in the competition. The service is part of the government's public campaign to promote the country, "Germany – Land of Ideas."

    Argentine journalists interested in learning basic German have until February 13 to register for a course offered in Buenos Aires. The goal is to prepare journalists to cover the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

    The program is meant not only for journalists reporting on the games from Germany, but also those who will be reporting from Buenos Aires. The Foro de Periodismo Argentino (FOPEA) and Goethe Institute are organizing the course.
